Amalan Mahendran is a life insurance advisor licensed in Ontario. He leads Beyond The Practice, the firm's practice for physicians and dentists, and writes the site's advice pages, which Amy Tong reviews before publication. His work centres on the decisions that follow incorporation: how a physician or dentist should own disability and life cover, when a corporately owned policy and the capital dividend account make sense, and how to draw income from the corporation without walking into the passive income rules.

Amalan has 18 years of sales experience across insurance and real estate. He is also a Sales Representative with The Agency, Brokerage, which is why the real estate questions physicians and dentists ask (a first home on a resident's income, clinic premises in a holding company, an investment condo that does not cash-flow) get a direct answer and, where a transaction is involved, a referral to the brokerage rather than a vague one. Real estate services are provided through The Agency, Brokerage, not through Beyond The Practice.

He is based in Pickering and works mainly in Durham Region, meeting clients at their clinics before or after hours or by video, and he co-hosts the practice's private dinners for physicians and dentists with Amy Tong. He built this site's calculators and insists that every figure on it carries a source and a tax year.

Amy Tong is the President and founder of AT Financial Group, a financial planning and insurance brokerage in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She specialises in disability, life, critical illness and investment services for healthcare professionals, and has worked with dentists and physicians. Beyond The Practice is the firm's physician and dentist practice, which she co-founded with Amalan Mahendran.

Amy reviews every advice page on this site before it is published. Her review checks the figures against the source, the tax year, the insurance definitions and the compliance rules that govern what a licensed advisor may say, and no page carries a "reviewed by" line she has not signed.

She co-hosts the practice's private dinners for physicians and dentists in Durham Region and presents the planning content at them. Her approach is to state the trade-off in the same sentence as the recommendation: what a strategy costs, what it depends on and what happens if the assumption fails.
